Papertrey Ink 5th Anniversary

I made a card AND am posting on my blog.  There must be some kind of motivation.  And there is, PTI is giving away a HUGE prize!  Read all about it here. 

I chose Betsy Veldman's card.  She is absolutely amazing.  Everything she does is creative magic.  If I need to make a card in a hurry I always visit her blog for inspiration.

ROAD TRIP mini album

The poor blog has been so neglected.  My plan is to pay more attention to it this fall.

Thought you might enjoy some pictures of our ROAD TRIP album I made. I downloaded Ali Edward's mini class called Scrapbook On The Road. At $14 US, I highly recommend it. I actually created a lot of the album before I left and took an Iris bin with me to store supplies. I did a lot of the journaling on the road while the memories were fresh. This is the first time I have ever scrapbooked like this and I LOVE the results.

The pattern paper is from House of Three called Daily Junque.  I painted (after being inspired by Ali) the light blue color for the front and back pages of the album.

This first page is actually a recycled cardboard CD case I covered in pattern paper.  I used Tim Holz's tape around the edges.  It was a great pocket to stick stuff in.  I love the pic - that is my youngest walking to the beach.

The backside of the CD case.  The Elvis stamp is from a scrapbook store called Cootie Coo Creations in High Springs, FL (wish I could of spent more time there - the ladies were fab).  The pic is of the family playing "air guitars" in front of Graceland.

I kept every little tid bit I could - receipts, cut up french fry wrappers, etc.  I journaled on the back of the White Castle cut out.

I loved picking up postcards to journal on. 

I did LOTS of journaling.

LOVE my new Fujifilm Instax Mini camera!

I used Tim Holz's mini stapler to include items as well as decor tape and a tape runner.

Found this photo op outside a restaurant in Siesta Key, FL.  The antique Vespa + Instax camera = perfection!

I used some transparency overlays - love seeing the next page behind it.

     

Me and the hubby - he took the photo and happened to catch our youngest in the background - LOVE it!

Probably our favorite part of the trip - parasailing!  Our youngest decided not to go at the last minute - the oldest LOVED it!

More items I picked up along the way.  We stopped in Juliette, GA and ate at The Whistle Stop Cafe!  Yes, we had fried green tomatoes!  The place looks exactly the same - hard to believe the movie is 20 years old.

Yes, I kept tack of our gasoline stops - thought it might be neat to look back on the prices someday.  On the next page I used transparency and made it a pocket page for receipts, etc.

I made a highlights page - had to spell it wrong to get the letters to fit!

I wanted to list all the states we visited - a tag was perfect for that!

I added a glassine bag to slip in all kinds of tidbits at the end. 

I am in love with my little Fujifilm Instax mini camera.  I think it really added character to the photos I took.  I plan to make a couple of scrapbook pages about the trip and call it done.  I think I captured enough info in this little album.  Also, some photos went in to my Project Life album.  I wish I could remember all the different products I used for this.  I know I used some Papertrey ink paper and their stamp set Road Trip, I also used Technique Tuesday's Are We There Yet by Ali Edwards.  I used rubons, spray mists, tags, thickers, Tim Holz tapes, stickers - lots of stuff I had laying around.  I believe the front, back and several pages were from Scenic Route.  It feels good to use up supplies!

Happy 40

My girlfriend turned 40 this past weekend and I wanted to share the card I made for her. 

I apologize for the messy desk you can see in the background!

I was inspired by a card Lisa Johnson did a while back, you can see it here.  I loved how she embossed the card stock and then went over it with white ink.  I used a paper towel dabbed in SU whisper white (craft) to brush over my embossed numbers.  I used the Cricut Printing Press cartridge to cut out the number 40.

PTI Blog Hop

Nicole issued a challenge to use a stamp set that either hasn't been inked up or hasn't been used in a while.  I decided to get out my Signature Series: Dress Form and matching die.  Here is what I came up with...

I used my FAVORITE PTI die Banner Borders for the top of the card (where the sentiment is).  I have used that die so much - it is a must-have!

I love using the little doilys you can get in the baking aisle at Hobby lobby.  I thought it added the "lace" feel that you can see in the photo.

Thank you Veterans!

Today is Veterans Day in the USA.  I wanted to make a couple of cards to thank my relatives that have served in our armed forces.  One for my brother (Iraq) and one for my Grandpa (Korea).  Don't worry, I mailed them yesterday! 

The card is based on sketch 306 from Splitcoast stampers.

Card sketchbook

I found this idea on Kristina Werner's blog.  I've been in a little bit of a rut and am starting to feel the pressure of the Christmas season to get crafty.  I thought making a sketchbook might give me a jumpstart.

I used one sheet of  Cosmo Cricket paper and three different PTI stamp sets.  PTI's All Booked Up, Take Note and Mini Scrapbook Tabs.  For the inside sketch pages I downloaded the pages from Kristina's blog.

Birthday cards for twins

Happy Birthday - medallion style

I was inspired by this card on Splitcoast.  Isn't it beautiful?  I LOVE the purely pomegranate satin ribbon so I went with that color for the card.  I used MFT's fabulous rolled rose die for the white rose.  I wish the sentiment stood out a little more.  But over all I am happy.

PTI BLOG HOP - Winter holiday challenge



PTI's Blog Hop challenge was to create a card based on a winter holiday other than Christmas.  At first, I was stumped; really stumped.  Then I decided to do a search.  I searched winter holidays and went to Wikipedia.  I found a Jewish holiday called Purim.  You can read all about it here.  According to Wikipedia, Purim is about celebrating the rescue of the Jews from Haman's plot to kill them.  You can read all about their deliverance in the book of Esther in the Bible.  So this is what I came up with...

I used the PTI All Booked up set, Daily Designs, mini Scrapbook Series:Tabs and Text Style backgrounds.  I LOVE the book image.  It reminded me of an open Bible; possibly open to the book of Esther?!  And I thought the "remember" sentiment was perfect for the holiday.

Birthday Bingo

I haven't been on here much lately.  I lost my mojo.  It seemed like everything I tried to put together just looked horrible.  Anyway, I forced myself to sit down and make SOMETHING.  My sister-inlaw's birthday is Oct. 25.  I made her a card; very last minute.   

I used The Cutting Cafe's Bingo Card set.  Don't you just love the Bingo card?!  What I LOVE even more is the fact that I can get a Cutting Cafe set within 24 hours of ordering (usually quicker).  No waiting for the slow snail mail.  I also used the HB2U stamp from PTI's birthday bash set.  I thought it worked well with the Bingo card.

Assembly line card making!  It makes mass-producing SO EASY!  These baby shower invites were so simple to create using a Cutting Cafe's file with my Cricut.  I used The Cutting Cafe's Umbrella shaped card cutting file to make the card.  As you can see, my whole card is not umbrella shaped but I did use the file to make the umbrella and flower on the front.

Quick tip:  Make sure your Cricut cutting mats are STICKY - this makes things go smoothly.  I learned the hard way.  I used an old, non-sticky mat and the paper moved while the Cricut was cutting; messing up the design - very frustating!

Swinging by to say hi

I saw this sketch on Mercy's blog and knew I had to make a card. 

And then I saw the colors Embellish magazine had on their blog and this is what I came up with...

I love this little girl swinging!  It reminds me of my childhood.  I spent hours swinging on my pink and white metal swingset (actually I think it started out red and white but faded to pink over time).

I paper pieced the girl's dress and the "trees".  I used chalk to create the sky behind her and used copics for coloring the rest of the little girl. 

Side note: I can't believe it's been 9 years since the attack on the United States by four airplanes.  I will never forget hearing of a plane crash in NYC then hearing it hit the world trade center (I was thinking it was a commuter plane) then hearing it was a jetliner full of passengers then a second crash then the pentagon then the crash in Pennsylvania.  We were glued to the TV at work wondering how many more attacks there would be.  My oldest was just 5 months old and I remember just wanting to leave and get to him.  I also remember thinking about all the people in NYC wanting to get to their babies in all that chaos.  I will never forget that horrible day.  Today, I am thinking and praying for all the victims and their families - may God bless you!
